Polar Pintabians and Brightbank Arabians

Polar Pintabians & Brightbank Arabians Ltd.

OUR VISION: Is to promote and improve on the Pintabian Horse, by selective breeding with the emphasis on disposition, appearance, speed and endurance. When our foals are imprinted at birth they are much easier to handle and train. We are strong supporters of the non-resistance bonding & training process as a means to train our horses. We believe in the practice of joining up, round penning and starting a horse. Our focus and emphasis is on the positive side of nature.

Quite by accident, we found ourselves the owners of two AAA mares (full sisters) from the Paul Guthrie farm; both were black in color and pure Polish daughters of Baharr. After boarding them for a year, we decided to look for a farm and discovered a beautiful rolling 20 acre parcel, which was fenced and cross-fenced, had a stallion compound adjacent to the teasing pens and a barn complete with tack room, hot and cold running water and heated. What more could you ask for? The bonus: a fifty-year-old farmhouse completely renovated.

The younger sister of our two Bahaar daughters, Belva Darbanda, had been bred to Windstorm V out of Sheila Varian’s farm in California. She produced a duplicate of herself in the form of a son. Windstar Destyny is a black Brightbank Arabian stallion with two white front feet just like Mom’s. Windstorm V’s paternal grandfather was Huckleberry Bey+++.

We fell in love with this colt at 18 months. He looked like a furry little Musk Ox, but even then he showed charm and charisma. He just loved to race against our van down the long drive when we would leave the boarding farm. We took him to a stable for training and just before his second birthday, he was entered into the Calgary Arabian Show, where he won his Halter Class, Classic Arabian and the Breeders Reserve Champion Stallion.

His third year was spent with his trainer, and just being a ‘boy’. To this day, he still loves to race against an ATV particularly if there is a wagon attached and the more noise it makes the harder he runs, and the higher he bucks, jumps and kicks. As Windstar has turned out to be a very special horse, we decided to breed his mother to a Pintabian from the Sunspot Farm in Karlstad, MN. His dam, “Bandi’ did not fail in her mission to provide us with another beautiful colt.

Polar Pintabians was pleased with the arrival of PP Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as “Rory”, born on April 24, 1998. Rory is the first Pintabian born in the province of Alberta and the fourth in Canada, as far as we know. He is triple registered as a full Pintabian, Pinto and part-bred Arabian. Rory has 99.6% Arabian blood. His genetics have been 35 years in the making. This is one of the newest, and one of the most exciting registries in North America. He has tobiano pinto markings.

We imprinted Rory at birth and there is an incredible difference in attitude. These foals are far more placid, quieter in nature, almost 'bombproof', and much easier to handle. Rory is a black bay with beautiful spots, wonderful conformation and long straight legs. He is now a three-year-old colt and the best description that we could provide is that he is pure raw power. We understand that many people would hesitate to enter a stallion’s pen, but the docile nature of this athletic animal allows one to do so without fear.

The year 2000 has been a very busy one. We bred for three Pintabian foals and were very fortunate and successful in having three beautiful babies, two colts and a filly.

We bred Windstar to Egyptian Lace, a Crabbet mare, and Rasmoniet daughter. They produced a bay filly, which we call Crystal Lace. We’ve nicknamed her “Boxcar Willy” as she is built square to the ground. This youngster is still a bit shy and retiring but we have been informed that this is not too unusual for a first time foaling mother with slightly over protective instincts. Crystal, at two is very friendly and quite curious.

Windstar’s dam “Bandi" was bred back to Rory’s sire “Adore My Sunspot”, and they produced a lovely filly “Nahanni”. She loves being petted & hugged and it appears she will be a leader like her mom. She has inherited a watered down version of the Bahaar temperament. With 99.6% Arabian blood, she will be triple registered as Part Bred Arabian, Pintabian, & American Pinto.

Ayesha, another of our black Baharr descendant mares, was also bred to “Adore My Sunspot”, and they produced a fine colt named “Y2K Normandy”. “Norman” is just as lovable & huggable as Nahanni, and these two foals are like a pair of goldfish. They constantly move together and have been branded the “N” twins. Norman also has 99.6% Arabian blood, and will be triple registered this autumn.

Scarlet, another one of our Crabbet descendant mares and Rasmoniet daughter, was bred to our very own Rory. Another fine colt named “Taiga”; was delivered July 6th, 2000. He is 99.8% Arabian. He has beautiful markings and at 4 months is becoming very social with people, and the other foals. As a two year old, he is quiet, and thinks about what you are asking him to do. He will mature to 15.1.

We purchased a black purebred Arabian filly from B.C. Every day we become more attached to this filly. We saw her at 3 days old and fell in love instantly. She is jet black, with a white star on her forehead. It’s the only way you can find her in the dark, because she is absolutely all black. We called her Stardust (barn name Dusty).

And so we have our small roving band of foals in our front pasture. We have a picture window in our living room, which becomes our vantage point to watch the evening antics before sunset and after they have been fed. About an hour or so after graining, they get a pep rush and love to run around the field, kicking bucking and playing. We have a lot of chuckles watching them.

Tarazi, our very feminine black & white rare Pintabian mare, was bred to Windstar. We are very pleased with the little black filly they produced, known as Nisha (Wind). This little girl is available for purchase as a Pintabian producer. Ptarmigan was paired with “Bandi”, and this will be his first get on the ground. Indian Summer Red known as “Indy” was born July 6, 2001 with a red coat, 4 white socks and a white blaze.

Rory has been mated with our Khemosabi descendant Khynda Magic, Khyalypso, and a beautiful bay “Misty Dawn". These mares both produced solid coloured foals that will be Pintabian producers.

Late May or early June 2002, will see Ebony El Sureyma produce a foal. We have high hopes for a spectacular black and white baby.
